28 MW turnkey biomass combined heat and power plant in Kent, England.

Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S

Aqvila’s scope of work included structural analysis, connection design, workshop documents and supply of steel structures, ladders, stairs, guard-rails and gratings totalling approximately 115 tonnes.

Danish engineering company Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S, hereinafter referred to as BWSC was in August, 2016 awarded the turnkey contract to build a 28 MW biomass CHP plant in Kent, England. Subsequently, Aqvila was by BWSC awarded the design and supply sub-contract for the platforms and the support structures for M&E equipment and installations, including normal pipes as well as high pressure steam pipes located inside the Turbine building. Furthermore, different minor structures located outside the Turbine building were included in Aqvila’s sub-contract.

The plant is powered by approximately 245,000 tonnes of mostly virgin wood per year.

Aqvila’s design services were performed parallel to the BWSC M&E design of the equipment and installations. The steel structures were analysed by using the 3D FEM software "Autodesk Robot". The steel structures, connections, ladders, stairs, guard-rails and gratings were modelled in the 3D BIM software “Tekla”. Based on this 3D "Tekla" model the workshop documents and files were prepared.

Aqvila’s steel structures were supplied CE marked.
